Sarah Grainger
Pilates Instructor
Retired gymnast rooted in movement, I bring with me STOTT mat and reformer training, along with education in anatomy, pre- and post-natal, and scoliosis. I also completed my FS8 certification through OnFit, which includes mat, reformer, tone, and yoga. I have worked in both classical and contemporary Pilates studios, teaching classical STOTT repertoire as well as HIIT mat and reformer combo classes using weights, blocks, bands, rings, and balls. I have experience teaching 1:1 sessions, small group classes (10 or less), as well as larger classes of 17+ students over the mic — one of my favourite environments to teach in. Most recently, I have diversified my practice by studying and training in the Lagree method here in Vancouver. I’m always learning and growing, and I make a point of staying up to date with new education, movement trends, and different approaches to training. After 10 years in the real estate industry, working both behind the scenes and in a high-performing sales position, I recently made the decision to become a full-time Pilates instructor. My background has given me a strong foundation in communication, organization, leadership, sales, and relationship-building, all of which I carry into my work in the fitness industry. Throughout my Pilates career, I have also gained experience in management, trainer development, social media and marketing, sales, and administration. As an instructor, I’m known for my calm, soft voice and my ability to create a space where people feel comfortable, challenged, and connected. I’m rooted in mind-body awareness and love educating my students on the “why” behind what we’re doing, rather than simply guiding them through a workout. I also genuinely enjoy connecting with my students before and after class and getting to know the people behind the movement. My teaching style is that of an educator and connector. I want my students to feel challenged and encouraged to do their absolute best, while always staying rooted in safety, proper form, and individual needs. Coming from a gymnastics background, I understand the value of discipline, body awareness, strength, mobility, and consistency — but I also believe movement should feel good and be something people can enjoy coming back to. I’m excited to see where this next chapter of my career takes me. I’m especially interested in creating a mutually beneficial travel or stay experience somewhere in the world, where I can bring my experience, energy, and passion for movement to a new community while continuing to learn from the people and places around me. I’m open to both short- and long-term opportunities and would love to find the right fit.
